Poultry and Wild Birds  M, Tu, W, Th, F  2-3 days
Specimen Requirements:    

Poultry: Oropharyngeal/Tracheal swab (Pool up to 5 birds)
Wild Birds: Pooled cloacal/tracheal swabs (1 of each swab per tube-do not pool birds)
Post mortem - Poultry & wild birds: lung, trachea, spleen, intestine (individually bag each tissue, keep each bird separate)
Collection Protocol:    
Aseptically obtained specimen(s); place swabs in sterile tube with 2-3 ml of BHI broth.  Viral transport media obtained from VDL-Virology may be used.  Submit each tissue individually bagged and labeled with permanent marker. 
Shipping Requirements:    
Refrigerate swabs, freeze tissues, leakproof container(s).  Overnight shipping recommended
Additional Information:    
Do not use bacterial transport media or culturettes containing agar or charcoal because they may have an inhibitory effect on the PCR assay.  *NAHLN assay*
