| Collection Protocol: |

| Collect nasal swabs using cotton or dacron swabs and place into sterile red top blood collection tubes with approx. 0.5 ml saline. Do not use any culturette swabs that contain a gel. Collect transtracheal wash and transfer to leak proof tube. Submit each tissue/swab individually bagged and labeled with permanent marker; refrigerate TTW and swabs, freeze tissue |

Specimens are screened for the Influenza Matrix protein gene. This Matrix gene is found in all Influenza Type A viruses. This test has not been fully validated in all species, however it has been demonstrated to detect Avian, Canine, Equine and Swine Influenza Type A viruses including, H5N1, H3N8 and H1N1. * Fee is $40.00 each for the first 2 tests, each additional test at the same time is $28.00 per test.
