Deep nasal swab, transtracheal wash or lung tissue
Collect nasal swabs (flocked or Dacron tipped swab - avoid wooden shafts) in dry sterile tubes - no anticoagulant or gel; plain red-top vacutainer tubes work well. Place transtracheal wash or tissue into sterile, leak proof containers. Keep specimens refrigerated.
