The Department of Biomedical Sciences, at the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, is dedicated to solving some of the world’s most challenging animal and human health issues. The department includes faculty in the disciplines of anatomy, physiology, immunology, pathology, clinical pathology, infectious diseases (bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology), and public health.
Research in the department focuses on the study of animal and human diseases, including immunonutrition, infectious diseases, neuroscience and atherosclerosis, microbiome, drug development and development of diagnostic tests. Our approach is interdisciplinary and often involves collaboration with other colleges on campus. Trained in comparative biology, our scientists are able to work with colleagues in a wide array of disciplines to explore solutions to complex problems involving the interfaces between biosciences, physical sciences, social sciences, and engineering.
This collaborative spirit is essential for the education of our graduate students. In addition to graduate programs, the college provides research laboratory experiences for professional veterinary students and undergraduate students from other colleges on campus.
The OSU College of Veterinary Medicine has leveraged this interdisciplinary approach to create a critical mass of expertise and resources that allow us to compete successfully for funding, support high-quality graduate education, and establish a world-class reputation for research excellence.
