Detection of Western Equine Encephalitis virus by real time PCR. Test is available as STAT if requested, for an additional fee. Same day results provided for STAT specimens submitted before 10:00 a.m. Results for STAT specimens submitted after 10:00 a.m. receive priority status and are reported as soon as they are available, at least by the following business day.

Detection of West Nile virus by real time PCR. Whole mosquitoes should be pooled & identified prior to submission, 50 insects to a vial; no identification is available in the lab. Test performed Monday-Friday. Typical turnaround is 2-3 days. Test is available as STAT if requested, for an additional fee. Same day results provided for STAT specimens submitted before 10:00 a.m. Results for STAT specimens submitted after 10:00 a.m. receive priority status and are reported as soon as they are available, at least by the following business day.

Detection of IgM antibodies to West Nile virus in equine serum by IgM-capture enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Samples must be received in the lab by 5 pm the day prior to testing, otherwise samples will be held until next scheduled testing day. With the addition of a STAT Fee, alternate testing times are possible to expedite turnaround times. Please call us at 541-737-2172 if testing a large number of animals. While advance notice is preferable, it is not required.

Isolation and identification of various viruses using cell culture methods. Appropriateness of this test will be determined by OVDL Virology section based on species and virus. For species not listed contact the laboratory. Typical turnaround time is 14-21 days, but testing may take longer for confirmation.
