Treatment Approach
Our clinic provides individualized treatment plans for each horse, tailored to their specific needs and conditions. The treatment approach may include:
-
Dietary Recommendations: Detailed dietary plans designed to meet nutritional requirements while addressing hormonal imbalances and obesity.
-
Exercise Recommendations: Specific exercise routines to promote weight loss, improve fitness, and manage metabolic disorders.
-
Medications: Prescription of medications as needed to manage hormonal disorders and metabolic issues.
-
Trimming and Shoeing: On-site farrier services may be scheduled at your request. Alternatively, we can provide specific recommendations for your farrier to ensure optimal hoof health.
Follow-Up Care
Conditions such PPID, EMS and obesity typically require long-term attention and monitoring to ensure the ongoing health and well-being of your equid. At our clinic, we are committed to supporting you through this process with various follow-up options:
-
Recheck with Your Primary Care Veterinarian: Our clinic provides consultations for your primary care veterinarian up to one year after your in-person appointment, allowing them to collaborate with our specialists to ensure continuity of care for your horse. This option enables your veterinarian to conduct follow-up evaluations while benefiting from the expertise of our team.
-
Telemedicine: For patients residing in Oregon and who have been seen through our clinic within the past year, we offer telemedicine appointments for follow-up consultations. This convenient option allows for remote monitoring and support, ensuring that your horse receives timely care and attention.
-
Periodic In-Person Recheck Evaluations: We offer scheduled recheck evaluations through our Equid Endocrine and Obesity Clinic, available at least four times per year. These evaluations allow our team to assess your horse's progress, make any necessary adjustments to their treatment plan, and address any concerns you may have. It is also important to note that a yearly in-person recheck appointment through our clinic is necessary to maintain a veterinary client-patient relationship (VCPR) allowing us to continue making recommendations for the patient.
Continued Care for Time-Sensitive and Acute Conditions
In addition to ongoing follow-up for chronic conditions, we understand that there may be instances where immediate attention is required, such as in the case of a laminitis flare-up or other acute concerns. For such situations, our Large Animal Internal Medicine and Large Animal Emergency services offer daily appointments, as well as urgent and emergent options.
Our team is dedicated to providing prompt and comprehensive care for all medical needs. If you ever encounter a time-sensitive issue or acute condition requiring urgent attention, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to support you and your horse every step of the way.
