This presentation will cover diagnosis and assessment of dentoalveolar trauma and approach to treatment planning for general practice. We will discuss this commonly identified condition and when diagnostics and intervention are indicated, including how to discuss these examination findings with clients, assessment and determination of treatment options, including when to consider dentin bonding for enamel-dentin fractures. An overview of the process of dentin bonding will be included.

Details 

The program is open to veterinarians, technicians and support staff!  It has been approved for one hour of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.

The program will be held in person at Magruder Hall and simultaneously on Zoom. Those attending in-person are invited to attend the social from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Magruder Hall Atrium. Appetizers and beverages will be provided. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Magruder Hall, Room 1152 and online via Zoom. 

This event is offered in partnership with the Willamette Valley Veterinary Medical Association. 

Learning Objectives 

  • Attendees will be able to identify and classify the types of dentoalveolar trauma. 
  • Attendees will be able to develop treatment plans based on awake and anesthetized examination findings. 
  • Attendees will have a basic understanding of dentin bonding and when to consider its use. 

Presenter Bio

Alice Sievers is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College.  She has worked in mixed and small animal practice, emergency medicine and referral practice, and is a co-Founder of Pet Dental Specialists in Vancouver, Washington. She supports education as a residency supervisor and as a visiting clinical instructor at the Oregon State University Gary R. Carlson, MD, College of Veterinary Medicine, providing dental and oral health education to all third-year students. She has presented nationally and internationally to the veterinary community and enjoys supporting the growth of veterinary dentistry in the professional community.

Dr. Sievers is active in the American Veterinary Dental College and is currently a member of the AVDC Board of Directors.

Pain in the Neck: Diagnosis and treatment of neck and back pain in horses

Dr. Duesterdieck-Zellmer is an associate professor in Large Animal Surgery at the Gary R. Carlson, MD, College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University.

This course covered clinical examination of the neck and back of horses to determine presence or absence of pain and to localize the pain. It also covered how to treat horses with back pain that do not have any radiographic or ultrasonographic lesions of the axial musculoskeletal system.
