The listed fee includes external examination of the animal, examination of the internal organ systems, and microscopic evaluation of tissues (as needed for diagnosis). If additional testing is required for diagnosis, individual fees for each test will be added to the invoice. After necropsy, representative remains (head, heart, and hooves) will only be released to a licensed cremation service. Arrangements must be made directly with the crematory prior to delivery to the OVDL. If no selection is made, routine disposal will be completed. The pathologist on-call has the discretion to accept an emergency case (e.g., emergency herd health, food safety, public health/human health). Collection Protocol

Ensure thorough mixing of blood in EDTA (e.g. invert tube several times immediately following collection) to prevent clotting. Clotted blood is not suitable for testing. Fresh samples provide the most accurate results. Do not submit feces in gloves.

Detection of antibodies to Neospora caninum in bovine serum by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Samples must be received in the lab by 5 pm the day prior to testing, otherwise samples will be held until next scheduled testing day.
