Our beloved cat, Audrey, was silly, loving, curious...all the things you adore about cats! She was adopted on the same day I adopted her retired Guide Dog brother, Schooner. She would intercept Schooner's popcorn with a swat, hide in kitchen drawers and open up any cabinet she could reach. She and her sister, Pearl, used to commute with us from Hillsboro, to Milwaukie every weekend as we remodeled our two homes. It was just 'normal' for her, and she understood so many human words, but relished when we would tap a finished cereal bowl, calling 'sugar milk', and she would come in from outside, anywhere! Her last years were precious, still behaving in her famous 'monkey' antics, while battling degenerating hips and arthritis. Dr. Beth Nguyen, Woodburn Pet Hospital, gave her the amazing quality of life she deserved in her last months, and we witnessed that gleam in her eyes and familiar curious face that she possessed as a kitten. She would climb, onto towel bars, on top of doors, up trees, onto roofs, and our favorite - drag a loaf of bread bigger than she was, across the kitchen floor - straddling it like a bronco. She 'helped' me sew, crochet, embroider and create jewelry. She was so special. How we miss her familiar 'tap tap tapping' across our floors.
