Bailey was rescued out of a bag in a dumpster with 12 litter mates when she was only a day or two old. She and one brother were the only puppies to survive what was done to them. She was cared for by a local veterinary assistant until she was just four weeks old and my husband and I walked into the veterinary clinic looking for any available puppies posted on their bulletin board. Employees overheard what we were looking for and before we knew it we were walking out of the building having just adopted a shy, fragile, tiny baby. We loved her so fiercely as soon as we met her and heard her story. She was our number one from that day on. She did everything with us, 5 moves, one out of state, our wedding, the birth of our son, she was always right by our side. She was always so gentle and sweet to our son, her new best friend, and she never lost her "puppy energy". People were always shocked to find out her real age because she was always so vibrant, healthy, and had such silly energy. We lost her to cancer when she was only 9 years old. We know that we gave her as much love and fun as any family could have. Her life may have started with an unthinkable act of cruelty but after that it was filled with love and respect. We miss her so much. She will forever set the standard that all other dogs will be compared to in our family.
