Where do I begin about this majestic creature?
Blue was adopted from Bonnie Hayes animal shelter in 2003 where he was turned in as a stray named “Lincoln”
He very quickly carved his place into my heart. I often called him my “million dollar cat” as I think over his lifetime, he has cost me around that figure. A short 3 months after getting Blue, he got sick. After tests and X-rays we found that he had eaten a foreign object that required emergency surgery. After an extensive stay and surgery, the object was removed. The object was a penny. How ironic seeing his shelter name was Lincoln.
This was the start to him using more lives than he had, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
He was a unique cat. Never met a person he didn’t like. Would curl into the lap of any unsuspecting person who sat down, and would make “muffins” on just about anything within reach.
Over his 16 years he had many animal friends. A roommates cats named Doobie and Koobie and a Chihuahua named Nacho.
When it was time to move and say goodbye to his buddies, we adopted his little (big) Brother, Bernese Mountain Dog Mix, Franklin. Blue instantly let Franklin know he was a force to be reckoned with. Nonetheless, instant friends.
Although Blue was an indoor only cat, he soon proved to me that he enjoyed spending time in the backyard, never leaving the fenced area. When it was time to come in, he came when called, or when he needed to use the litter box lol.
Soon we adopted his sister Pixie, from Woodburn Pet Hospital. I was very careful with the introduction, but within 2 days, he had made another best friend.
Blue started losing a bit of weight, so I decided to have him see Dr.Beth at Woodburn Pet. She told me he was much more sick that he was letting us know. We both cried in the exam room because we knew what the right thing to do was. Dr. Beth's kindness and true sympathy for me is something I will never forget.
So the next day, on Mother’s Day, when the hospital was closed, she put my sweet boy to rest. He went peacefully with mom and dad by his side.
To say there isn’t a day when I don’t miss is presence, would be a lie. I miss him everyday. At 16 years old, he’s been with me for just about half my life. There is a hole in my heart. I love you Blue. I’ll see you at the Rainbow Bridge
Thank you Woodburn Pet and Dr. Beth for donating on behalf of Blue. I can’t begin to thank you enough.
