Our sweet dog, Bonnie, passed on August 10, 2026. We had Bonnie for a very short time, a little less than 7 years. We answered an ad in The Oregonian for Sheltie puppies born on a farm in Albany. Neither my wife nor youngest daughter were in favor of getting her from a breeder. With my wife, it was the expense, and my daughter was passionate about adopting shelter dogs. Everyone came to love Bonnie dearly. She was the runt of the litter; the cutest, tiniest pup. She didn’t let her size keep her from being the sassiest and most bossy animal in the household. Bonnie was fiercely protective of her people, and she was also so sweet. She would cross her little paws when she laid down. About a year ago, our vet at First City Veterinary Hospital noticed that Bonnie needed a teeth cleaning. On further examination, it was discovered that she had a kidney disorder that would make putting her under anesthetic very dangerous. It was decided to start injecting Bonnie with fluids weekly to help the kidneys do their work. Everyone at First City Veterinary Hospital was so helpful and loved Bonnie. She was able to live almost a year with these injections. In the end, it was the rotting in her teeth that forced us to have to say goodbye to our sweet Bonnie. Bonnie was deeply loved and is deeply missed by our family, neighbors, and her fur brother and sister.
