Bug

Bug was a Roof Rat who was found by the dishwasher in a home on Vashon Island, Washington. A rehabber contacted Best Friend Rodent Rescue of Everett, Washington and he was delivered by ferry the following day to his new home with one of their volunteers and her husband. Bug got his name because he had giant eyes and a skinny, skrunkly little body that made him look like a lizard or a … bug! He lived with his parents for over a year until they had to move out of the country and he went to live with his new mom in Portland, Oregon. His moms connected over their shared love of Roof Rats and have since become best friends. Bug’s new home had a vast room devoted to all the ratties in her care. It was called Rat City. He made frenemies with several of the other Roof Rats in Rat City, wandering over during his free-range time to hiss and chitter at them. In fact, none of the Roof Rats previously knew how to hiss or chitter, so after accidentally teaching them how, Rat City was never quiet again – you could often hear screeches and chitters late into the night from other rooms! His new mom’s family were not so thrilled about it! Well, Bug, being a peaceful, sensitive, quiet boy who didn’t like a lot of nonsense or shenanigans, took it upon himself to keep watch over Rat City, ensuring that all the little varmints kept in line. Sure, he could never get the other Roof Rats to stop making a racket again, but he did his rounds, paid his visits, and made sure his frenemies knew their place! He was officially upgraded to the Sheriff of Rat City and Bug had an entire alcove that was previously a closet dedicated to him where over time his mom turned it into a wild west town, complete with cactus cat trees and a county jail! Bug passed away from an aggressive and fast acting cancer weeks before his third birthday, on his “birth” mom’s birthday. The date serves as a perpetual reminder that he was the great gift of her life. Bug is sorely missed by both of his moms, his dad, his grandma, and many of their friends who loved watching the many videos of him growing up – in particular the videos of him climbing vertically up doors! Rat City thanks Sheriff Bug for his service. The citizens of Rat City and Bug’s family ask you to please support the rodent rescues out there doing amazing work!
