I would like to say that we found Dehlila, but no, I think it was she who found us. On January 1st 2025, I was awaken at 6 am by some meowing that seemed to be coming from under our house. I got up from bed, and went out to the front porch. It stopped. I went back to the bedroom where my husband was sleeping, and heard it again. I woke him up to tell him what I was hearing, and asked if he heard it as well. We sat there, in bed, for a few minutes, and heard it again. We both go out side together and look under the porch, near where our bedroom is located. There was Dehlila, looking out from behind the lattice, with her big kitten eyes, not being sure if she wanted to come out. I quickly went inside and put some of our dog's food into a small dish and then brought it out to coax her to come out. She was so hungry, and came out immediately to eat. I knew at that moment she was ours, or rather, we were hers. After 2 weeks of her "hanging around" and having a bed for her with a heated blanket, we let her inside. Our dog was apprehensive at first, he had been our only pet, but she charmed him instantly. We knew it would be a good fit after that, they became best buds. My husband was never a fan of cats, but I think between myself, my daughter's, and Dehlila, he had a change of heart. She was funny, spicy, playful, inquisitive, never missed a meal, and always showed love on her terms. She will be enormously missed forever, and forever in our hearts.
