On May 3, 2022 our dog Gakdoogi passed away from heart cancer. He lived more than two months longer than the moment we were told he was on the cusp of dying from late stage heart failure.

Doogi was the runt of his litter, meager, shy, and generally a loner-type. He preferred to trace the perimeters of parks than chase other dogs or balls. He was basically allergic to everything. His favorite food was rice and gim. The only real pain he went through seemed to be during baths, and otherwise his passing was peacefully at home on a pillow as his heart finally gave out.

More cat than dog, Gakdoogi didn't prefer being pet or handled too much but always sought to be no more than an arm's length away. He liked to stare, and I always enjoyed wondering what he was thinking. He never craved the spotlight or attention of others, instead choosing to observe our strange behaviors as humans. I always wanted him to know that no matter how disconnected he ever felt to the world or others that he would always be loved by us.

The past two years at home were lucky in the sense I didn't spend 8-6:30 PM M-F away at an office to occasionally be able to pet or smell him.
