It’s been a week since we said goodbye to this sweet, sensitive soul. He came into our lives six years ago and he’d been tossed around a few times by then. From the beginning, he seemed to say “hello world, here I am” and he settled right in with us. He was anxious and reactive and had trouble getting his food to stay down because of a congenital problem, but most of the time he was content to just be with his people. He would follow us from room to room no matter how sound asleep he had just been. And he usually needed to get his long nose right into whatever it was we were doing. He was silly and goofy, so his nickname was Goose (because he was a silly goose). He loved his home and his yard. He loved to snuggle, especially first thing in the morning. He loved coming to work with me, sleeping in the car until our cherished morning break and lunch break walks. He loved barking his head off at full, bone-rattling volume with his tail wagging. He was such a constant and strong presence. We loved him fiercely. Our hearts are broken but at least we can know he’s at peace now.
