Large black dog rolling around in the grass

Joanne began life as a Guide Dog for The Blind puppy. We were given the opportunity to be her puppy raiser. She lived with us for the next 14 months, during which time we introduced her to the world. We took her everywhere from schools, restaurants, buses, and everywhere in between. She then went back to Guide Dogs for training. Unfortunately, Guide Dogs veterinarians decided that was not her calling because of a skin allergy. As puppy raisers we had the first option of taking her home. HORRAY! Joanne was a wonderful dog! While not the typical Labrador, she didn’t play ball or swim, she was intensely loyal and never met a person she didn’t love. She still wanted to work so Mike started taking her to work with him. She would stare at him every morning as if to say it is time to go! Joanne rode in the passenger seat of his pickup while he did his service calls. She decided she would go into the offices, and soon became their “therapy” dog. Over the years Joanne had quite the following between the gas station attendants and the office workers. She is missed by all of them and her family!
Thank you, OSU, for everyone involved with the veterinary school!
