Kody was a majestic German Shepherd that also had a silly/goofy side. Most importantly, he was family and my friend. He loved the water and just loved being anywhere that I went. He truly was my shadow. While to outsiders he could look menacing, Kody was nothing but sweet. Always concerned with animals or humans in need of help. He enjoyed 13 years of unencumbered activities and when we discovered that he had Degenerative Myelopathy he pressed on with life no matter what we threw his way for nearly two more years. Our regular walks eventually turned into assisted walks with a harness that became walks with a wheelchair to full support and eventually strolls around the neighborhood in a wagon. He never complained and took it all in stride. He became somewhat of a neighborhood celebrity. He was never one to seek attention but surely got it. Spending a good portion of his final years in a rear support wheelchair, I noticed that he started to approach people when passing him at the park. I think he was letting everyone know that he was okay and not wanting them to feel sad for him. Truly an amazing guy. Hopefully he is now running free and swimming all he wants.
