Kona was a 3 month old, black, border collie/retriever that we met while she was being fostered. It was an easy decision to rescue her. I was not looking for a service dog, but she quickly chose to fill that role. Her intellegence, compassion and attention to details were just a few of her many assets and contributions that took her beyond a pet, co-worker, a caregiver, companion, family and best friend. We were fortunate enough to have her grace our lives for 18 short years. She sat tall in the passenger seat her entire life as I delivered flowers, groceries and supplies. She was the best coworker and performed her duties flawlessly with a pride so grand she made you want to work harder and be better. She was loved by many and respected for her loyalty to her job. Her uncanny ability to know when I was in danger of a seizure and needed her assistance was a comfort that I miss everyday. Her personality made her one of a kind; humorous, fast, disciplined and patient. She loved to run, chase tennis balls and look out for all the other animals that she met. Especially her squirrels, frogs, snakes, a skunk and a very special calf that ran with her like a dog. She was loved and spoiled by those that met her and she graciously acknowledged each of them every chance she got. Kona left us peacefully on October 27th, 2021 on her 18th birthday following an emotional day of celebrating her birth, her life we were honored to be blessed with and saying goodbye to the best dog ever. We miss you Kona and will always remember how special you made our lives. Many hugs and lots of love.
