At about 5 1/2 most. Lexi was rescued from a high kill shelter. She was beautiful, quirky, funny, chased shadows & reflections, loved being sprayed with the garden hose, and barked at dog commercials. Often we'd end up sitting on one of her bones she'd jam into the sofa cushion, and boy that girl could play, and was like the energizer bunny; always on. She was oh so faithful, trustworthy and a great protector. If a gate was accidentally left open, she had no desire to leave the property. She loved us and knew we loved her. We knew the last couple months something was off. We suspected hemangiosarcoma, and our fears were confirmed (having had gone through this before with our last Shepherd). Knowing the abrupt outcome hemangiosarcoma can have, we held to our promise to our fur babies that we would never let them suffer needlessly. Saying good-bye to a family member you love so much is heart wrenching, but we remind ourselves that between hello and good-bye, there was love...oh so much love. Leh leh, girl thank you for the 9 years of unconditional love. We miss you so much.
