I had recently lost my beloved cat, Morgan, when a friend called me to say she was bringing me something. She showed up on my porch with a bouquet of roses from her garden and a tiny, fuzzy, black and white kitten. I didn't think I was ready for a new cat, but Lucy was such an adorable bundle of kitten energy, she won me over quickly. Her favorite toy was a bird on a string hung from the door frame. It was too high for her to reach so she climbed up on a nearby basket and launched herself at that toy, over and over and over. And that was the story of her life. She launched herself at everything. She was utterly fearless. She loved the humans in her life. Every night she'd meet me at the door when I got home from work and tell me all about her day. She was always happy to help me with whatever I was doing whether that was working at the computer or painting the living room. I could count on her to be in the middle of everything. I miss her everyday. She was my familiar, my boon companion. I hope wherever she is now that she is having amazing adventures, chasing bugs, and getting up to all kinds of devilment just the way she did when she shared her life with me.
