November 2003-June 18, 2019
It was love at first sight when Mocha, aka Louise, arrived at All The Best pet store in Kirkland, WA in late 2003. The store sponsored cats for adoption through a wonderful shelter in Arlington, WA called Purrfect Pals. As soon as Mocha stepped out from her carrier that day I knew instantly she was my familiar. She was already an adult feline (about 2 years old we think) and had been abandoned by her previous owners who moved away and left her to fend on her own. With her new identity she came to reside with Patrick and me as the first of three remarkable animals who would makeup our inter-species family. We were committed to having dogs and cats and I insisted on getting the cat first so she would train the dogs, especially since they would be terriers. This proved to be a wise plan and Mocha was the perfect mama cat for the boys, Bingo and Derby (both are memorialized on this very website). They certainly had their issues with one another; BUT they grew to become best buds over the ensuing years.
Our personal connection with Mocha was SO deeply satisfying and sweet. I personally relished our communion with one another and she inspired me to woo her with endearing chatter and sweet little made-up love songs. She evoked love and admiration and delight from those who knew her intimately and was pure joy to be around. At first blush she was a shy girl and oh-so feminine but once she took a shine to you she was boldly your forever friend and loved being the object of your affection. I always felt Mocha's gratitude for our enduring love and affection for her. She never seemed jealous of the dogs or threatened even when we openly expressed our fondness for them. She knew she was loved without a doubt. She was a confident and powerful presence in our home and her absence now is unfathomable. Oh Mocha-Mo we love you SO!, You were a true Class Act from start to finish. FELES REGULA
