Dog with white fur and brown spots sitting outside in front of trees

Our "love affair" with our precious Monty boy came about on Valentines Day in 2012. We have always been animal rescue advocates and Monty was no exception. We are big fans of GSP's and a week prior to our adopting Monty, we had had to put our other 12 year old GSP, Bodie, down. That was bone crushing to our souls because we loved him so much. Dear friends of ours, who had 5 GSP's themselves and are (obviously) avid GSP fans as well, knew we were slowly losing Bodie so one week after our loss and grieving him intensely, our friends called and said they spotted a GSP at an adoption event and thought we should "just go take a look." I think you know how that story ended. We didn't think we could love another GSP as much as we did Bodie but when our eyes fell on Monty - it was all over! He was beautifully perfect in our eyes!! You can see that for yourself in the pictures.

Monty went everywhere with us. He loved the beach, our big red truck, snuggling, tennis balls (and playing catch), his treats (LOL), following us everywhere, hanging out with us, and he even his beloved vets at Bethany Family Pet Clinic - they were so good to him and saw in him what we did - that meant the world to us. He had the most hysterical sense of humor (I know - weird, right?) and such a loving disposition. He was so good and so gentle with all of our grandchildren and other animals. He didn't know a stranger and he didn't have a mean bone in his body. He loved us well ... so needless to say - we could hardly bear it when we saw the writing on the wall that he was slipping away from us.

We finally said goodbye to our sweet boy on January 2, 2025. It's taken this long for me to share his story because our grief has been so deep. We miss and remember him every single day. To those veterinarians and veterinarian students out there - keep up the good work because what you do matters. It matters to the animals and it truly matters to their owners. We count ourselves blessed to have had our precious boy for as many years as we did. Thank you for all you do.
