Black cat sitting on a cat tree next to a scratching post

We adopted Mr. Giles from Meow Village in 2017 after he was left in the parking lot of an apartment building when his previous family moved out. He quickly became best friends with our 70 pound lab/hound mix, Luna. He had a tough life, including a declaw with complications (another gift from his previous owners), an allergy to tartar that resulted in him losing most of his teeth, and a rare (and acute) medical issue called pyothorax that he survived. His entire life, he was a fighter. Despite his many health challenges, Mr. Giles was probably the sweetest cat you could meet. He loved riding on our shoulders and being carried, snuggling, playing with a good piece of string, and sniffing some fresh catnip. Libby works from home, and he was her little shadow throughout the day. One co-worker shared they felt like he was a team member too! In late 2023, he was diagnosed with kidney disease, a final illness that couldn't be cured. He lived about four months longer than the vet predicted, and was able to enjoy this year's last rays of warm sunshine and extra pets and playtime with his family. Libby and Taylor said goodbye to him in their home on November 10th, 2024. His family will miss his cheerful chirps, loud gallops through the house, and sweet nuzzles.
