Oreo and I met when she was about 3 months old. I pulled into a parking lot, and saw a small pick up truck and a few people looking into the truck bed. I figured that there were either puppies or kittens in the truck. I already had 2 dogs, and I didn't want a cat. The truck and the people were still there when I walked out of the store. So, of course, I had to go look! Sure enough, there were about 4 puppies in the truck bed. The man who owned the truck was saying that he had no running water in his house, nor any heat. Twenty dollars, and you could take a puppy home. One of them, just drew me to her, so I had a new puppy. We had a few struggles along the way, and eventually, she became one of the best dogs I have ever had. She always listened to me, would practically slide into home plate to stop, when I called her name. Which became her name as my son and I drove her to the vet, after I brought her home. People would often ask, what it was I had done to train her so well. It wasn't me training her, it was her wanting to be with me, and do what she knew I needed her to do for her safety. She was my COVID lockdown partner. Of course, she will always be in my heart, and I will always love her.
