Q came into my life October of 2003. I had gone to Bonnie Hayes animal shelter for another reason, wasn’t expecting to fall in love with this guy. He was in holding, and putting on quite a show inside the cage. They said he would be in holding for a week. That week I couldn’t stop thinking about him. On the first day he was up for adoption, I was there to take him home. They said he was a small male Snowshoe. After a month he doubled in size. At his biggest I think he hit 22 lbs. Our local vet said he needed to lose some weight. I finally got him down to 20 lbs and that’s where he stayed.
I had the hardest time picking out a name, literally it took over a week. I remember a childhood friend showing me how to draw a kitty using the letter Q… and it stuck, he was my Q.
We would call him Qutie, Qbert, and Qute Potatoes. And Q of course. He was such a ham and never ran from anything. His new home was a small farm in Banks Oregon. He grew up around Llamas, chickens, two dogs and another cat. He also had my kids to entertain. They were 6 and 8 years old. Several years went by and unfortunately I went through a divorce. Q was my rock through those tough times. We moved a couple of times and finally landed in SE Portland in 2017. Q had a short battle with diabetes in 2020. Dove Lewis was amazing with him and got him on the right track. Luckily he went into remission, but early stage of kidney failure was on the horizon. I started taking my pets to Broadway veterinary clinic and they help me keep a good eye on Q’s health. Here we are 2023, rounding to what would be Q’s 20th year. He passed away on January 25th to what seemed to be a stroke or seizure. I made the hardest decision to let him go. I am feeling so honored that my vet made this contribution in Q’s name. Thank you Broadway Veterinary Clinc for honoring Q in this way.
Q until we meet again, always in my heart.
