Sadie was rescued sick and emaciated, along with her puppies. The puppies were adopted quickly, but no one showed any interest in Mama Sadie. I admit I adopted her even though I already had two dogs at the time. I simply couldn't resist those eyes the moment I saw her picture. Opening my home and heart to Sadie was one of the best decisions I ever made. She was the gentlest and kindest dog. She loved both dogs and people, especially little people, who were always drawn to her. She was very much the princess of the household. She claimed a generous portion of the sofa but graciously left me just enough room to perch on the end. I loved watching her sleep as her legs twitched, as if she were running through a dream, barking—probably at squirrels. She also snored sometimes so loudly that, on occasion, she woke me in the middle of the night. As I look through photographs from the past eleven years, I find Sadie in every chapter of my family's life. I see her sweet face at birthdays and end-of-school-year celebrations, at my grandchildren's soccer and baseball games, at Thanksgiving dinners, on family vacations, and beside us on hiking trips. Sadie's life is woven into the tapestry of our family's memories. Your Mom and your pack of grown-up and little humans will always miss you, Sadie. We are grateful for every day we were blessed to share with you.
