Sammi

I adopted Sammi 2.5 years ago from Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals. She was approximately 11 years old at that time. She was a very sweet little 7lb poodle mix and a wonderful companion for myself and my little 6lb Havanese, Patrick. She was snuggly and the best little girl I could have hoped for. She was always by my side. She began having syncope episodes about a year and an half ago. Our vet said she had an enlarged heart and put her on Vetmedin. She continued to have the syncopal episodes occasionally when she got excited. A couple days before her passing I noticed her breathing was labored. I took her to Tanasbourne Emergency vet and they immediately put her into an oxygen kennel. I was told she had a significant heart murmur and possible pulmonary hypotension. I was told even if I took her to the cardiologist and she had an echo and medications that she probably only had a few months. I made the incredibly difficult decision to let her go. I didn’t want her to suffer. My other dog and I were able to spend about 2 hours with her, while in the oxygen kennel and then in a very nice room with couches, a rug and windows. Sammi had a very lovely peaceful passing.
