Scout Marie

My sweet Scout Marie was rescued by Northwest Boxer Rescue from a high-kill shelter in California. She was brought to the NW and fostered in Corvallis. When I applied to get a 2nd Boxer, she was nothing I wanted...a young, very timid brindle...I typically rescued fawn seniors. But they suggested her to me, and as a proud Beaver alum, I took her being fostered in Corvallis as a sign. A few short months after rescuing her, I lost my soul dog Riot to cancer, and the next day Scout Marie and I faced the world together. I always say the right dog finds you, and she was my heart dog. Riot saved me when I needed it; Scout Marie healed me. For almost 9 years, she was my faithful companion; through the highs and lows, she was always there by my side. She openly welcomed other Boxers as temporary fosters as they waited for their forever homes. Through the years, she had a few mast cells removed, but I thought we were going to dodge the big "C" for the most part...I couldn't know that 2 years ago she would be diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy after a routine dental, and just a short time later the devastating Degenerative Myelopathy diagnosis. For almost 2 years, my sweet girl fought the progression with determination and grace, eventually embracing her new pink wheelchair. Just a month shy of her 11th birthday, she gained her angel wings.
