We adopted Watson in 2003 when he was a little over 1 year old. He had been found wandering the streets by our local shelter and we said that we would ferry him to a larger shelter in Portland where the adoption rate was much higher. But as soon as we saw his sweet face, we knew we couldn't give him up. For 14 years he was a wonderful and gentle companion. His favorite species was human and his favorite sport was to sit by your side and have you hold his paw. In 2004 we adopted another golden Beau and he and Watson were best of friends for 7 years. For the last 6 years we had him, he was an 'only' dog and relished all of the extra attention it brought him. As he aged he became less agile and mobile, but he never lost his love of walks, food, and us. It was a terribly sad day when we had to make the decision that no pet owner wants to make, but Watson was almost 15 years old and he had a good run, longer than many goldens. And we had a wonderful dog whose gentle spirit is still with us.
