1 day, samples are run between 10:00 am and 2 pm. Samples received after 2:00 pm testing is done next day.
Shipping Requirements
Label all samples. Ship overnight on dry ice so sample arrives frozen. Remove from red cells and place sample in an additive free plastic transport tube.
Specimen Requirements
0.5 mL frozen EDTA plasma
Collection Protocol
Plastic tubes are required because endogenous ACTH will bind to glass. Freezing of plasma sample and shipping on dry ice are required because endogenous ACTH will degrade if not frozen. If serum or whole blood EDTA samples are received, they will not be processed. Exercise or other stress prior to blood sampling may increases ACTH values and should be avoided. If sample arrives thawed specimen will be rejected.
