Shipping Requirements
Label all samples. Ship overnight with cold packs in an insulated container. Ship Monday-Thursday only. EDTA (purple top) tube. Fresh tissue: Package samples individuallly in sealed, leak-proof plastic bags or containers.
Specimen Requirements
Acute, Chronic/Neurologic Anti-Mortem CDV: 3-5 ml EDTA Whole Blood; Acute, Chronic/Neurologic Post-Mortem CDV: Brain (periventricular area near 4th ventricle; cerebellum), Duodenum, Lung, Lymph node, Stomach, Urinary Bladder.
Collection Protocol
Fresh samples provide the most accurate results.
Detection of canine distemper virus (CDV) antigen by direct fluorescent antibody method. Samples must be received in the lab by 5 pm the day prior to testing, otherwise samples will be held until next scheduled testing day.
