Collection Protocol
Affected skeletal or cardiac muscle and liver are the preferred samples. Tissue should be aseptically collected. Do not add saline or broth to fresh tissue samples.
Detection of 4 histotoxic clostridial species by the fluorescent antibody method.Targets include chauvoei, novyi, sordellii, and septicum. A Gram stain will be performed to screen for Clostridia type organisms prior to FA staining.
