Shipping Requirements
Label all samples. Ship overnight with cold packs in an insulated container. Ship Monday-Thursday only. Submit specimen with request for C. perfringens culture & PCR genotyping. If an isolate is obtained, Bacteriology will forward the isolate to Molecular Diagnostics for genotyping. If no isolate is obtained, there will be no charge for genotyping, only the culture fee.

PCR genotyping of Clostridium perfringens isolates (A, B, C, D, or E) by identifying toxin genes (alpha, cpa; beta, cpb, epsilon, etx; iota, ia) as well as genes for beta 2 toxin (cpb2) and enterotoxin (cpe). NOTE: Toxin gene results are reported. Refer to footnote on results to determine toxinotypes (A, B, C, D, or E).
