Label all samples. Ship overnight with cold packs in an insulated container. Ship Monday-Thursday only. Sealed, leak-proof plastic bag or container.
Specimen Requirements
One or more of the following: 2-5 g Feces, Intestine or Intestinal Scraping. 2-5 mL Intestinal Content, Biopsy from base of Proliferative Lesions, Teats, Oral Cavity, or Scabs.
Collection Protocol
Fresh samples provide the most accurate results.
General evaluation of samples for virus particles using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Samples must be received by 5:00 pm Tuesday for processing on Wednesday. Processed samples are examined by TEM on Thursday mornings with results reported by Friday. Reporting of results is dependent upon availability of the TEM facility.
