One or more of the following: fresh tissue, swabs, exudates, aspirates, fluids.
Collection Protocol
Sample should be aseptically collected. Do not add formalin, saline, or broth to fresh tissue.
This test is available for the culture and identification of aerobic bacteria and rapid-growing, non-tuberculosis, Mycobacterium species. In addition to culture, this test includes an Acid Fast stain and 16S Sanger sequencing where applicable. This test is incubated for 6 weeks.Please note that this culture is not intended for the identification of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (Johne’s disease). Only for rapid growing Mycobacteria spp. Slow growing Mycobacteria spp. suspects such as Mycobacterium avium or M. tuberculosis will be sent out to NVSL.
