Label all samples. Ship overnight with cold packs in an insulated container. Ship Monday-Thursday only. Submit specimens in sealed leakproof containers.
Specimen Requirements
One or more of the following, nasal or oral swab, 1 g of fresh or frozen lung, feces.
Collection Protocol
Submit swab in 1 ml BHI broth or viral transport media. Do not submit swabs in tubes containing gel, Amies media or media containing charcoal. Cotton swabs on wooden shafts are not suitable for PCR testing. Submit synthetic swabs on plastic or wire shafts.
Detection of the nucleocapsid genes 1 and 2 for the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), causative agent of COVID-19 by real time PCR. Test performed only after approval by the Oregon Department of Agriculture, State Veterinarian. Panel Includes: SARS-CoV-2 N1 (rtPCR), SARS-CoV-2 N2 (rtPCR)
