Shipping Requirements
TICK MUST BE DEAD BEFORE SHIPPING. Place the tick into a small plastic or metal container (an empty pill bottle is ideal). Close tightly and freeze the tick for at least 24 hours to kill it. Put the container holding the tick into a sealed plastic bag. Place the bag into a padded envelope or small box for mailing. Do not use a standard business envelope. Submit specimens in sealed leak-proof containers.

Whole tick(s), tested in pools of up to 10
Collection Protocol
Submit whole ticks, separated by species and sex for each collection site, for testing by real time PCR. Please place male and female ticks in separate containers for each site.
Detection of Colorado Tick Fever virus and Rickettsia rickettsii (causative agent of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever) by real time PCR. Performed for surveillance and results are reported to Dr. Emilio DeBess with the Oregon Health Authority. Please contact the OVDL for more information.
