How to Submit a Sample
1. New Client?
- Complete the New Client Registration process
- If current client, skip to step 2
2. Select test and appropriate sample
3. Complete Submission Form
- A submission form must accompany each submission.
- Place submission form in a separate plastic bag so it does not get wet from ice pack condensation.
- If using the portal, print the submission form once the submission process is completed and include with your sample.
4.Package Samples
- For shipping please refer to Packaging and Shipping Guidelines.
- In person drop off: label the primary container and place it in a secondary container.
- Specimen and packaging requirements differ depending on the nature of the test ordered. Packaging specimens (with minimal likelihood that pathogens are present OR for diagnosis of an infectious disease) requires sufficient inner AND outer packaging. For information on packaging and shipping, please refer to our Packaging and Shipping Guidelines, or contact us at 541-737-3261.

5. Deliver Sample
- In person:
- Drop off Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed weekends and university holidays) (link to holiday closure page)
- No appointment necessary
- OVDL, 134 Magruder Hall Corvallis, OR 97331 (Google Maps | The OVDL is located on the south side of Magruder Hall. Please enter through south parking lot entrance.)
- Local Courier Option
- City Delivery Service will pick up at local veterinary clinics in Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon and Philomath for free. Call to schedule a pickup directly with City Delivery Service at 1-800-759-6602.
- Shipped
- Obtain Mailing Supplies (shipping only)
- The OVDL accepts specimens shipped through all commercial delivery services, including: UPS, FedEx and USPS.
- UPS and FedEx are recommended for perishable specimens are deliveries arrive earlier in the day.
- For your convenience and savings, we offer pre-paid shipping labels through UPS or FedEx with guaranteed overnight delivery Monday - Friday. Clients using the pre-paid shipping labels are not charged until the label is used. Once the label has been used, the charges will go on the invoice with your tests requested.
- Contact the OVDL Business Office at 541-737-3261 or vet.diagnostic@oregonstate.edu to obtain a shipping label.

8. Receive Results
- Results will be sent via email, fax or paper copy through USPS depending on how the account was set up.
- If you have questions about results, you are welcome to contact the laboratory, Monday through Friday, 541-737-3261. Please have the OVDL account number, owner's name, date specimens were sent, accession number, and test(s)requested available. In the interest of privacy and continuity of care, results will be shared only with the client of record (the clinic or person paying the bill).
- All samples and specimens submitted become the property of the OVDL and will not be returned unless specific arrangements are made and approved in advance by the OVDL management. Samples, specimens, and related test and diagnostic results may be used for teaching and research purposes. Test and diagnostic results will be shared with appropriate state or federal agencies as required by law.
