Student Clubs

Develop veterinary skills necessary for the care of agricultural animals, promote food animal medicine within the veterinary community and support veterinary students preparing for rural medicine.

The purpose of this club is to bring together students who are interested in practicing food animal medicine. The club can serve to complement the academic work with more hands on practical experience with cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, llamas and poultry. The club can also serve as a resource for local contacts.
Past events have included speakers and field trips such as a trip to a dairy goat farm to help with kidding and to the Beef Northwest feedlot in Hermiston, Oregon. Events planned for next year include more field trips, speakers and wet labs. Yearly dues are $5.

Theriogenology Club:

The purposes of this club are to provide an opportunity for veterinary students to gain additional knowledge about reproductive systems, management, technology and research as well as to promote camaraderie among veterinary students with an interest in theriogenology and act as a liaison between practicing theriogenologists and veterinary students at Oregon State University.

Activities we have had include:  Monthly meetings, which usually include a presentation of some type (AI, collection, foaling etc), assisting with the advanced therio class for the seniors, assisting with the equine reproduction workshop, foaling out the therio mares (2 students/night on foal watch in an RV by the therio barn), wet labs including cattle AI, stallion collection etc.

Veterinarians face ethical issues every single day in practice, whether it be decisions on euthanasia, financial quandaries, difficult clients, abused/neglected animals, lab animal research, or production animal factory farming, the list goes on and on. This club was started in 2016 for the chance to address controversial issues such as these in an educated and influential environment amongst students and faculty. We believe the veterinary profession to serve as a voice for the voiceless animals we study, discover, and befriend each day of our career’s journey. As the only veterinary ethics club in the nation, we hope to start something new here at OSU and share our discussions to other schools in the country and begin the tough conversations that we are bound to face in the future!

The Christian Veterinary Fellowship (CVF) chapter at the Oregon State University (OSU) Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine is a student-run club, with the parent organization for CVF being Christian Veterinary Mission (CVM). Veterinary medicine allows veterinary professionals unique opportunities to share the love of Jesus Christ while applying professional skills. CVF provides a place for future veterinarians to come together on a regular basis to learn more about God, build relationships with Christian veterinarians already out in practice, and develop lasting friendships that make the rigor of veterinary school easier to endure. As veterinarians-in-training who also love Jesus, it is our desire to transform the lives of those in our community and around the world by improving the health of companion animals, livestock, and exotic animals. Students are challenged to have a worldly perspective of veterinary medicine and learn to integrate their faith with their career while living out God's plan for their lives and serving others.

If you are interested in receiving E-mails about the CVF chapter at OSU, or if you have a question, comment, or concern about CVF, please contact us!  You can also fill out the Connect Form here to be added to the CVM's E-mail list.

We are a group of veterinary students hoping to create positive change within the vet school. We grew tired of the traditional take academic institutions adopt when it comes to diversity wherein they select students from diverse populations but do not provide resources to support those students. Our mission is to advocate for and empower current veterinary students regarding issues of race and diversity. We hope to build safe spaces for conversation and community.
