Stacie Summers, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (SAIM) is an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine. A board-certified specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine, Dr. Summers serves as a clinician on the Internal Medicine Service at the Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where she provides advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care for complex cases while mentoring veterinary students, interns, and residents.

In her faculty role, Dr. Summers divides her time between clinical service, teaching, and research. She earned her PhD in biomedical sciences with a focus on novel etiologies and the role of the gut microbiome in cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD)—a topic that remains central to her research today. She leads clinical trials investigating early diagnostic biomarkers and microbiome-based therapies for feline CKD and collaborates with research teams at multiple institutions across the country.

Dr. Summers is a nationally and internationally invited speaker on the diagnosis and management of kidney disease in cats. Her research aims to improve the quality of life and clinical outcomes for feline patients by advancing our understanding of the gut-kidney axis and exploring interventions that restore a healthy microbiome and reduce the production of uremic toxins by gut bacteria.
