My areas of research include hematology, metabolic disease and infectious diseases of camelids and use of immunocytochemistry in diagnosis and prognosis of neoplasia. My research interests are primarily in immune response to infectious disease, hematology and metabolic diseases. We do most of our work with camelids (llamas and alpacas), but also collaborate on studies in a variety of animal species. Our particular interest is in Mycoplasma haemolamae, an organism that affects red blood cells of llamas and alpacas. We developed a PCR assay for the organism and have used it to study multiple aspects of the infection
