In another life, Shannon worked in business management and sat at a desk. Then one day, she decided to pursue her dream of working in veterinary medicine. Shannon began working in veterinary hospitals as a technician in 2003 and has been licensed since 2005. She has had the opportunity to experience many areas of veterinary medicine during her career, such as shelter medicine, general practice, large animal, ER/CCU, cardiology, and surgery. She then found her true passion in oncology. After working over a decade in a large specialty hospital in Illinois, she moved her family in 2019 halfway across the country to Oregon. Her family had always wanted to live in Oregon, and Shannon was interested in exploring academia, after mentoring interns for many years.
"At Oregon State Univerisity, not only do I get to love my patients as we take this journey together, I get to build strong bonds with their owners, all while supporting new generations of veterinarians and veterinary specialists,” she said.
When not fighting cancer, you can find Shannon hiking, kayaking, gardening, camping, cuddling with her pets, or possibly just lying in a hammock. Her goals are to help both patients and owners feel more at ease with treatment plans.
“Cancer can be scary, but I will go out of my way to make your pets comfort a priority," she said. "Expect your pet to receive cuddles and treats from me. Extra blankets are part of the package deal.”
