The listed fee includes external examination of the animal, examination of the internal organ systems, and microscopic evaluation of tissues (as needed for diagnosis). If additional testing is required for diagnosis, individual fees for each test will be added to the invoice. After necropsy, representative remains (head, heart, and hooves) will only be released to a licensed cremation service. Arrangements must be made directly with the crematory prior to delivery to the OVDL. If no selection is made, routine disposal will be completed. The pathologist on-call has the discretion to accept an emergency case (e.g., emergency herd health, food safety, public health/human health). If accepted after hours, on weekends, or on holidays, there is a surcharge of $200. If a legal or insurance case, a surcharge of $250 may be added.
