Shipping Requirements: 
TICK MUST BE DEAD BEFORE SHIPPING. Place the tick into a small plastic or metal container (an empty pill bottle is ideal). Close tightly and freeze the tick for at least 24 hours to kill it. Put the container holding the tick into a sealed plastic bag. Submit specimens in sealed leak-proof containers.

Place the container holding the tick into a sealed plastic bag. Place the bag into a padded envelope or box or mailing. Do not use standard business envelopes. Complete the tick submission form and mail it with the tick to the OVDL.

Detection of Colorado Tick Fever virus and Rickettsia rickettsii (causative agent of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever virus) by real time PCR. Performed for surveillance and results are reported to Dr. Emilio DeBess with the Oregon Health Authority. Please contact the OVDL for more information. Test is available as STAT if requested, for an additional fee. Same day results provided for STAT specimens submitted before 10:00 a.m. Results for STAT specimens submitted after 10:00 a.m. receive priority status and are reported as soon as they are available, at least by the following business day.
