Small, long haired, light brown dog sitting on couch

Winnie was born on March 8, 2009, to her foster family in The Dalles, Oregon. Her mother, Penelope, was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Pasco, Washington, and brought to Home At Last Humane Society. Penelope turned out to be pregnant and Winnie was one of seven very cute and adorable siblings. Winnie was the smallest and known as the one with big ears. We brought her home to Portland on May 30, 2009. She adjusted quickly to life with our family, with 7-year-old Corinne noting that she was “a good self-manager.” As cute as she was as a 5 lb. puppy, her signature feature came to be her gorgeous (and sometimes wild and crazy) strawberry blonde hair. She literally stopped traffic with her striking appearance. She almost tripled in size to around 14 lbs. when fully grown. She was a “dog-person,” excited to socialize with dogs of all sizes and breeds (or really anything with four legs). Her extended family included Heidi (and her home away from home – where she liked to manage the other dogs who were staying there) and Rock-It! who was a dear and beloved dog friend. She loved going for walks in the neighborhood, sleeping in the grass on sunny days, stealing slippers, and playing with her toys. She hastened many home renovation projects by pulling up loose pieces of linoleum or carpet, shredding couch cushions, and finding other ways to redecorate. She was sweet, smart, and loved so deeply. Winnie, you are always in our hearts, we cherished every minute of your 14 years with us.
