Missy was one of a kind.
She purred the loudest out of all her fur family. She was the most vocal, whether she wanted food, pets or your attention. She was adamant about following you around wherever you went, snuggling into your lap when she could, and loafing beside your head when you slept. In our eyes, Missy could do no wrong!
She was a joy from the time she was adopted out of the Oregon Humane Society as a kitten and was one of the lasting reminders of Andy’s adolescence, and of family that has since passed on. Missy was there through everything: trauma, heartbreak, travels, moves, and evacuations. One time, she even ran out the front door one morning and was missing for a month! But Andy was determined to get her back home, so he set up traps, cameras and food, and was finally reunited with her.
That’s what needs to be the most understood; once you’re in our family, you’re in it until the end and will always have a home with us.
She was a strong little lady, despite all of the medical issues she was dealt in the end. At 15 years old, she had been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (which she received medication twice a day), kidney disease, dementia and a heart murmur that eventually became an arrhythmia. She crossed the veil in our home with the help of Dr. Marie from Compassionate Care; we wanted her to feel safe and as comfortable as possible, surrounded by all that was calm and still familiar to her.
Our little home hasn’t been the same without her, since she was the heart of it for so long. Sometimes, we still hear her meowing from another room or think that we see her slinking to the water bowl in the corner of our eyes. Our other pets feel the loss too and haven’t been so sure to do with the quiet that she’s left behind. They loved her just as much.
Though Missy is no longer physically with us, we know that she’s with her other brothers and sisters that have crossed the veil, where she can wrestle and play and meow with them, and that brings us some peace.
Until we meet again, Mimi.
All our love,
Andy and Avery
