Biography

Dr. Mariya Pitel spent her childhood in rural Crimea on a family farm nestled between vineyards and almond groves bordered by the Black Sea.

Dr. Pitel earned both her B.S. and DVM degrees from UC Davis and spent a year as an intern veterinarian at Pacific Crest Equine before pursuing a residency in large animal internal medicine at Oregon State University. Following a year working as a staff veterinarian back at UC Davis in the Livestock Medicine and Surgery Service, Dr. Pitel spent time in private practice. She worked at AIM (an equine sports medicine practice in California) and most recently at Columbia Equine Hospital here in Oregon before joining the Oregon State University Rural Veterinary Practice team.

Dr. Pitel is certified in veterinary acupuncture and is a large animal internal medicine specialist, board certified by The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Her professional interests include gastrointestinal disease, rehabilitation, acupuncture and nutrition.

In her spare time Dr. Pitel enjoys hiking and exploring the trails of the beautiful Oregon mountains and coast with her dog Roxy, and spending time with her horse Rudy.
